Under 10-Under 18
Belwest runs a competitive football program for youth generally aged 10 to 18. The program follows on from the MiniRoos program run for younger age groups, but participation in earlier programs is not a prerequisite.
Game rules for the younger age groups continue to have some minor variations to the full rules to ensure players develop their skills over the years. This program has a competitive nature, but we still aim to play in a friendly environment and encourage teamwork and good sporting behaviour. Our aim is to allow players of all abilities to participate and enjoy the great game of football.
Forfeits
If a team forfeits a game, they will receive a fine from Capital Football in accordance with the Competition Regulations. If your team needs to forfeit, contact the club via info@belwestsoccer.com and rego@belwestsoccer.com, and enter the forfeit into Dribl.
Weekly 3-2-1 Entry
Under 12-Under 18 teams fill out weekly 3-2-1 sheets at the end of each competition game. For home games, submit them in the match card box next to the canteen. 3-2-1 votes go toward the junior female and male club player of the year awards.

Under 10 and Under 11 play MiniRoos.
Under 12 play modified MiniRoos. The official offside rule (Law 11, FIFA Laws of the Game) does not apply. Goals can be scored from an offside position. Game Leaders should direct players who are permanently standing in blatant offside positions to move into onside positions. Children should be made aware of the official offside rule during training and encouraged to adopt this philosophy during the game.
Under 13 play modified MiniRoos. The offside rule is included in the Under 13 competition as it is an integral rule of football. The rule is applied using the IFAB Laws of the Game. Yellow and red cards are part of this age group.
Under 14-Under 18
Under 14-Under 18 play full-field football.

Games
Games are played at Latham Playing Fields for our home games and at the home fields of other clubs playing in the competition. Clubs are from all areas in Canberra and may also include clubs from surrounding areas. Games are played on Saturdays.
Details about kick-off time and game duration are in the Game Details table below. Games are played in two halves, with a 5-minute half-time break. Coaches usually like players to arrive 15-30 minutes before a game to allow the team to warm up.
Match Day Requirements
Dribl is Capital Football's competition management system for match day operations including team sheets, match cards, results, team selection and team official selection. All U10-U18 teams need to use this app.
Download the Dribl App from the App Store on your phone and activate your account using the details you registered with. MiniRoos Under 10 to Junior League Under 18 fixtures and results are published in Dribl.
Capital Football Dribl competition management guides, or Dribl Help, are available to help you get started. Dribl Help is easier to use on a PC, notebook or iPad. Contact info@belwestsoccer.com or see us at Latham on Saturdays if you need additional help.
Training
Training varies by age. The time and frequency of training is determined by the coach.
Teams and Grading
Team numbers vary based on registrations. Under 10-13 teams typically have up to 12-13 players: nine on the field, including the goalkeeper, plus up to five substitutes. Under 14 and above play with 11 on the field, with up to 16 players named on the scorecard per game.
Players are allocated to teams based on age group, selected package, ability, registration numbers and stated preferences provided during registration.
Under 10 Age Specific Information
Belwest starts grading players and teams from the Under 10 age group. The transition from Under 9 to Under 10 can be difficult, as teams and players who have sometimes played together since Under 5 are often split because of grading.
The grading process is vital to ensure players and teams are placed in the most appropriate playing level. Previous teams and friendship requests are considered, but the key factor used is the player's ability.
If a player wishes to be placed in a team based solely on friendship requests, this can be requested, but may result in the player playing in a lower level than their ability. Please let the Registrar know before grading sessions if a player's friendship group is the primary preference.
Dates of the grading sessions can be found in Key Dates. All players must have completed the grading registration form to attend these sessions.
Parents should read the Grading Policy and Parent Information to be familiar with Belwest grading of junior players Under 10 through Under 15.
All grading and preseason team allocations are at Latham Playing Fields.
To confirm an offer of a place in a Division 1 or Division 2 team, players must accept in writing and be registered on PlayFootball by the date specified in the offer email.
Equipment
Belwest branded socks and shorts must be worn. Referees can ask players to leave the field if they are not wearing Capital Football approved club strip. If players wear something under their playing shirt, singlets through to skivvies are fine, especially when winter sets in. Please ensure anything visible is the same colour as the shirts: red or black.
Our club colours are red shorts and red socks, which can be purchased from the merchandise shop on any day that soccer events are on.
Shin pads are compulsory for all games and can be purchased from the merchandise store at Latham.
Players should also wear adequate footwear. If you purchase football boots, boots with multiple moulded studs are recommended. Metal studs are not allowed.
Belwest runs a second-hand boot pool from the merchandise store.
Please also bring a water bottle.
Playing Shirts
Each team will be provided with a set of playing shirts and a football. Teams hold onto these for the season and return them on equipment return day, usually a week after the season ends. Shirts should remain together each week, with parents taking turns to wash them all.
If you wish to purchase a ball to practise with, please choose the correct size. Ball sizes are listed in the Game Details table below.
