No Dogs Allowed

A person must not take a dog onto a field or playing area where sport is being played or training for sport is being conducted.

• On-the-spot fine: $75
• Maximum penalty: $750

Dog Droppings

Dog owners must remove droppings in public places and carry appropriate equipment.

• Fine for non-removal: $50
• Fine for failing to carry collection equipment: $50

ACT Domestic Animals Act 2000 — Section 42

Dogs are also prohibited in the following areas:

• Child-care centres, preschools, primary schools (max penalty: 5 units/$750)
• High schools during school hours/sport (max penalty: 5 units/$750)
• Public places within 10 metres of children's play equipment, cooking appliances, or swimming areas (max penalty: 5 units/$750)

Exception: Assistance animals accompanying people with disabilities are exempt from these restrictions.
